Drivers will be relieved to know that the new Mobile Bay Bridge project is expected to be fully approved by the Federal government this spring. Pending final approval, the project is expected to break ground in early 2020.
The toll bridge will take around five years to complete and will be the second- or third-tallest bridge in the U.S. The Mobile Bay Bridge will have six lanes for cars, as well as a dedicated bike/pedestrian lane.
While the project is not officially underway, ALDOT has already started clearing nine buildings along the canal to make room for the new bridge.
